Program Description

Chemical Dependency Professional (CDP) Certificate (15 Credits)

This is an Alternative Training opportunity for licensed providers (such as licensed mental health counselors and other health care providers).  The 15-credit online program meets the educational requirements for Alternative Training (WAC 246-811) for Chemical Dependency Professional (CDP) Certification.  
 
This training will enable advanced professionals to earn the educational requirements for Chemical Dependency Professional Certification with Alternative Training.  Please refer to the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) requirements for full certification details.
 
Students will be required to have a grade of 2.0 or better in each Addiction Studies (AS) course in order to graduate from the program.

The following fully licensed professionals are eligible for Alternative Training (WAC 246-811):

• Advanced registered nurse practitioner under chapter 18.79 RCW
• Licensed marriage and family therapist, mental health counselor, advanced social worker, or independent clinical social worker under chapter 18.225 RCW
• Psychologist under chapter 18.83 RCW
• Osteopath physician under chapter 18.57 RCW
• Osteopathic physician assistant under chapter 18.57A  RCW
• Physician under chapter 18.71 RCW; or
• Physician assistant under chapter 18.71A RCW

Important Course Information:

• Students must have basic computer skills and consistent access to the internet.
• For a typical two-year community college student, each credit hour is the equivalent to one (1) hour of structured learning/online lectures/videos/web based exercises/community experiences, etc. per week with an average two (2) hours of additional unstructured learning, reading/homework, etc.

Program Learning Outcomes

1. Students will demonstrate necessary skills to successfully perform clinical case management functions to facilitate a client's progress through the addiction treatment system.
2. Students will articulate professional ethics and acknowledge the obligation to adhere to federal and state laws.

Certificate - SFCC

Offered at Locations:  Spokane Falls Community College
This 15-credit Certificate provides the educational requirements for advanced professionals outlined in Washington Administrative Code 246-811-077 to apply for Chemical Dependency Professional Certification with Alternative Training. The coursework meets each of the topics required specific to the treatment of individuals living with substance use disorders.
