Program Description

The Certificate in Advanced Career Studies is designed to allow students the opportunity to advance academic/professional/technical knowledge in their area of career interest, refine social and independent living skills, and improve skills related to employment in an inclusive community college setting beyond the level of achievement attained through the Certificate in Career Studies.

To be admitted to the program students must have a documented intellectual disability (as defined by Statute 20 U.S.C 1140 (2)(A)), are currently or were formerly eligible for a free appropriate public education under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and successfully complete all requirements to earn the Certificate in Career Studies.

Students will earn the Certificate in Advanced Career Studies after completing four quarters of classroom, community, and campus based coursework for a total of at least 45 credit equivalencies. All students graduating from this program must attend at least 80% of all class meetings and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.

This Certificate is non-transferable to a four-year university, but credits earned through inclusive coursework (courses offered in the standard course catalogue published by the College) can be used as credit towards any other certificate, AA, or other degree option offered at the Community Colleges of Spokane as applicable to that program.
