Program Description
The Social Services Gerontology program is designed for those who plan to seek employment in social services upon completion of the two-year program, or who wish to transfer to a four-year institution and complete a bachelor’s degree.The Social Services Gerontology program leads to: an associate in applied science (AAS) degree that is for those who wish to transfer to a four-year college or seek employment in social services upon completion of the two-year program.
Those who have completed the AAS program will have acquired the necessary skills to work in various public and private social services programs. This degree also can serve as a transfer degree to four-year colleges. See program adviser for more information.
Program Learning Outcomes
1. Apply contemporary theory and practice of socialization, recreation, and quality of life management in the context of aging.2. Demonstrate high levels of successful interaction with clients and community resources that provide services to wide spectrum of human service needs. These include services to elders, children, and frail and healthy adults. These services include but are not limited to housing, transportation, recreation, health care, education, employment and other resources as needed.
3. Students are adequately prepared for continued education or to enter human services employment setting.
4. Comply with state and federal regulations regarding services for a variety of social services delivery areas including work with children, adults, elders, homelessness, recreation, transportation, nutrition, health care, and wellness.
