Program Description
The Administrative Assistant program is a two-year program of study. Students may participate in online or on-ground classes. At the core of every business are administrative support personnel. Students completing this degree will be proficient in computer applications and learn the latest communication tools, procedures, and practices that are essential in today’s business environment.Students completing this degree will be competent in the following areas: oral and written communications, meeting and document preparation, travel arrangements, desktop publishing, bookkeeping procedures, spreadsheets, calendar management, office management, and survey design. Students will also have a strong foundation in Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint and will have the opportunity to document their competency. Students will complete capstone courses which will integrate classroom learning into “real-world” office situations.
Students will have the opportunity to bridge the gap between the classroom and the business world by participating in a work experience internship as well as a model office simulation. Students may begin in entry-level positions and work toward advancement and promotion.
Program Learning Outcomes
1. Demonstrate proficiency in the creation and preparation of commonly used business documents.2. Apply knowledge of office organizational tools, electronic calendaring, and electronic
messaging.
3. Apply basic business communication skills in a variety of situations both orally and written.
4. Demonstrate proficiency in meeting preparation, organization, and note taking techniques.
5. Effectively prepare and design spreadsheets to aid decision making.
6. Use and apply a variety of office management and bookkeeping principles.
7. Effectively use Word, Excel , Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook for common business applications.
8. Demonstrate the ability work independently and professionally in a simulated office environment.
